Olympic veterinarian
The VMRCVM's Large Animal Clinical Sciences Department head David Hodgson will be in China to watch over
some of the athletes competing in the 2008 Summer Olympics. He'll be among a group of veterinarians
monitoring more than 200 horses in three equestrian events.

CNN Focuses on Shortage of Food Animal Veterinarians
CNN recently produced a broadcast news story that focused on the shortage of food animal
veterinarians facing our country and the profession’s efforts to gain federal government assistance
in addressing the problem. CNN crews visited the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary
Medicine at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg to gain material for their story. Fourth year student Suzanne
Gregory and faculty member Dr. John Currin are featured.

Veterinary college professor, students receive awards during recent national symposium
BLACKSBURG, Va., June 20, 2008 -- Dr. John Rossmeisl, of Blacksburg, Va., an assistant professor
in the Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences in the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of
Veterinary Medicine at Virginia Tech, was recently presented the 2008 Student American Veterinary
Medical Association Teaching Excellence Award-Clinical Sciences during the national symposium
hosted by Auburn and Tuskegee Universities' Colleges of Veterinary Medicine.

Veterinary medicine's Purswell certified as veterinary acupuncturist
BLACKSBURG, Va., June 19, 2008 -- Dr. Beverly Purswell of Blacksburg, Va., a professor in the Department
of Large Animal Clinical Sciences in the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine at
Virginia Tech, has graduated from the medical acupuncture course at Colorado State University and
is now a certified veterinary acupuncturist.

Dr. Jennifer Hensley McQuiston named veterinary college outstanding recent alumna
BLACKSBURG, Va., June 12, 2008 -- Dr. Jennifer Hensley McQuiston, of Stone Mountain, Ga., has been
named the recipient of the 2007-2008 Outstanding Recent Alumni Award for the Virginia-Maryland
Regional College of Veterinary Medicine at Virginia Tech.
